Val McDermid returns to Norwich for the launch event of this year’s festival. Author of over 30 novels and the creator of genre-defining characters Lindsay Gordon, Kate Brannigan, Tony Hill and Carol Jordan, Val will be discussing her work and her most recent novel, Insidious Intent, with Stav Sherez.
Stav is the author of the highly regarded, visceral and London-based Carrigan and Miller series. His latest novel, The Intrusions, was released in February and focuses on illegal highs and procedural lows.
Val McDermid is one of the biggest names in crime writing. Her novels have been translated into 30 languages and sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Val has created many notable characters such as journalist Lindsay Gordon; the private investigator, Kate Brannigan; and psychologist, Tony Hill. Her books include three main series: Lindsay Gordon, Kate Brannigan, and, beginning in 1995, the Tony Hill and Carol Jordan series, the first entry in which, The Mermaids Singing, won the Crime Writers’ Association Gold Dagger for Best Crime Novel of the Year. Stav Sherez is the author of five novels. The Devil’s Playground (2004), his debut, was described by James Sallis as ‘altogether extraordinary, it introduces a major new talent’, and was shortlisted for the CWA John Creasy Dagger Award.
